Have you ever wanted to be the best that you could be in the eyes of God?. Have you ever been given a responsibility to fullfil a great commision, and wondered how you would go about accomplishing such a calling?. Have you ever wondered what do I get from being of service to you Lord?. II chronicles 1:7-12 helps us understand this issue. In this part of scripture we study and understand that king Solomon was now king of Isreal. After offering a sacrifice to God, indicative of a man who acknowledges the power of God in his life, God now visits him and asks in vs 7b "Ask what I shall give thee". What we must understand from this verse is this, a good thanksgiving makes God attentive to us. God wanted to know what he could do for King Solomon.
Immediately judging from Solomons response in vs 8 one can see a man fully aware of his responsibility to others first before himself. Vs. 8 states "Now O Lord God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude". In vs 10 he asks " Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?". Notice from both passages of scripture in vs 9. That King Solomon understood his kingship, he understood that he was not just going to be rulling himself but others. He was aware of the fact that he would be ruling a great number of people. He knew that this was not a small task. Solomon understood that he could not do such a job without the presence of God in his life and so in vs 10, he asked for the needful which is wisdom and knowledge. In vs 12 God promises Solomon not only riches and wealth but also but honor as well. Remember God will never promise a thing to his people without fuliling it. Even Christ said that though it tarries(the promise), It will surely come.
Solomon was not just mean't to carry the mantle of rulership upon his people, he was the one designated to build a great temple for God. This was truly Solomons calling and that purpose had to be fulfiled in Solomons time. I chronicles 29: 1 Shows this Furthermore, David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, Whom alone God hath chosen is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the Lord God. God was intending to build the temple which is the same as the palace(Davids Context), through the hands of Solomon. God could not accomplish this task without first giving Solomon wisdom in which to keep and appreciate, all that David had amassed during his reign without giving him the wisdom to do so. Solomon would be blessed by God for asking for wisdom and also honored for his work later on in the story. Solomon would build a temple for God that would be admired by many for years to come after that. Are you someone who wants to do Gods will, but do not know how to go about doing it. Remember Gods will for us is for Good. Make sure your intentions are to bring God glory, or else he will not bless your work. Make sure that you pray about what God has placed in your heart to do. God wants you to seek his help in everthing that you do. So today I call you in the name of Jesus, to desire something Good for God today, Find out what does he want you to do through reading, and meditating upon his word. Then pray to God about it. Don 't underestimate God, he knows the end from the beginning. He will honor your good service.
