Exodus 29: 1-9: In the spirit of Exodus we are going to continue in the journey with the Israelites to the promised land, hopefully this article will uncover some truths especially from this very powerful story in scripture that I find intriguing so much. The first vs kicks of with a sacrifice unto God which was the usual thing that was required of the Israelites back in those days to allow them access into God. In vs 2 Unleaven bread, cakes with oil and wafers with oil where made and placed at the altar with the bullocks that were sacrificed. Unleavened bread according to my studies in the past indicates the presence of the holy spirit, because yeast(a form of bacteria used to raise the dough to make bread according to the hebrew traditions of those days was not particularly recommended and therefore was not particularly used). To top it all of the fact that the bread, wafers and cakes where made with oil signified purpose and the annointing present in the food(lets just say that incomparism to the usage of yeast, oil was good stuff). Wheat also biblically was synonymous for signifying people in general. All these special articles where presented to God at the altar. In vs 4 Aaron and his sons where brought to the door of the tabernacle door and washed with water to signify the word of God cleansing them and preparing them for ministry. In vs 5, garments where put on Aaron as well as a coat, the robe of the ephod(a type of apron made of linen that jewish priest wore underneath the breast plate) was placed on him. The breastplate that was put on Aaron carried twelve precious colorful stones sown into a cloth, each stone representing the twelve tribes of Israel. A girdle was put on him also named "the curious girdle of the ephod", on his head was placed a mitre(a type of turban), on the mitre was placed a crown. In vs 7 Aaron was anointed with oil. Same thing happened to his sons but thiers was only after he had been anointed with oil. In vs 8 his sons were also dressed with coats, girdles were also placed upon them, bonnets on thier heads a perpetual statute of priest hood was placed upon thier heads perhaps a type of covering to help protect the heads of the priests. Aaron and his sons where anointed and consecrated for service at the altar, and ready to do the work of God.
In retrospect what does this all say about God and his idea of leadership. Well this is what it says, every single thing that God does, if you read scripture is with purpose and intended to point the reader to the intent of God. The old testament points to the new and that part of scripture gets us ready for the coming of Christ, and what he intends worship to be like after he leaves again and comes back to take us to his heavenly kingdom. The unleavened bread, cake, wafer with oil points to christ as the living bread of life as seen in (Jn 6:35), The fact that those items where offered on the altar indicates annointed worship, we as believers are all annointed to worship by the holy spirit which is represented by the oil that was presented with the items. Oil is significant because it was used to annoint the heads of new kings and priests. The fact that it was presented at the altar means that when we become saved as believers we automatically acquire the holy spirit. The holy spirit is there to guide us through all things. Once we have the holy spirit we have access to God. Wheat was also presented indicating that God makes a difference between wheat and chaff. Wheat representing believers, was presented as flour meaning total submition and brokeness before God. The items where put into a basket with a bullock and two rams. Sacrifice back in those days pointed to christ the ultimate sacrifice whose blood was shed for us on calvary. Aaron and his sons where then brought to the door of the tabernacle and washed with water another representation of christ, as christ is the water of life. All the garments that where put on Aaron and his sons indicates responsibility on the shoulders of Aaron, who obviously had the position of headpriest in comparison to his sons who must have had positons of priest, just so that they could support him in his work. The twelve precious stones indicating the twelve tribes of Israel indicates how special God considers us to be. The Isreal talked about is not just a geographical location but spiritually speaks to whosoever recieves the gospel(Jesus christ) as thier personal Lord and Savior. So if you are a believer you are precious in the sight of God. You are something that God would seek after, die for and wash with his blood. Aaron represented christ who was also noted in hebrews as the highpriest Melchisedec, who pleaded the cause of his people to God on thier behalf. Looking at all these points noted, if you are not convinced that God is that special entity that cannot be explained or put in a box then you are not yet in the know, spiritually speaking. You are still looking for answers when God says look to me I am the begining and the end(the Alpha and Omega). Someone may read this scripture and just stop there instead of reading the rest of the bible to find clues as to what God is talking about. God is time itself for in him there is no shadow of turning. Get to know that God today. Join a bible believing Church if you have yet to find yourself in one, pick up your bible and begin to read. God will reveal himself to you in such a way that you will become one with him. He is not a boring God. When that happens I pray that your life shall be like Aaron and his sons or believers in general. I pray that it shall be a life that is totally annointed, submitted and made totally for worship in Jesus name. Amen.
