Have you ever failed at an assignemt before?. Where you ever commanded by God to do something and failed at being obedient to God?. Are you convinced in your heart, that right at this very moment you are a good husbandmen?. We will deal with this question today, using this great article that we are going to title "The good husband man". However to help search out this truth, as well as help tap into the great wisdom of God, we will be using a great parable taken from the book of Mark 12:1-10; the story begins with a man building a vineyard, he puts a fence around it, digs a winefat also known as a winepress into the ground and also builds a tower for securing the place. He lets the vineyard out to husbandmen, to help protect the vineyard when he is away, and then he decides to go away to a far country. While he is still away in the far country, he sends servants to go get him fruit from the vineyard. The first servant gets caught, beaten and sent away empty handed by the husbandmen. A second servant was sent but he was stoned, wounded in the head and sent away shamefully. Another servant too was sent this one was not only beaten, and killed, but he was also thrown out of the vineyard. Others too were sent and the same trajedy happened to them all as well. Look throughout the bible and secular history, how many prophets sent from God have we sent away, beaten and killed because of our own selfish greed. I am guilty of this, and probably so are you. One thing we must understand is this, by listening to Gods prophets we open the door for mercy to come into our lives, so please do not miss an opportunity to listen today, I believe that this is your day.
Having no other servants, the vine yard owner now sends his one and only beloved son, hoping that maybe if they saw his son they would respect him, and obey. The husbandmen however seeing the son of the man said in vs. 7b;" This is the heir come let us kill him and the inheritance shall be ours". Consequentially they were not afraid of the employer or his son, and so they took the owner of the vineyard's son, killed him, and threw him out of his inheritance i.e. the vineyard. The owner of the vineyard within reason becomes upset as a result of this new incident, decides now to take control of the situation himself. In vs 9; Jesus(our story teller) asks "what shall therefore the Lord of the vineyard do?". uhhm!Lets pause here for a moment and realize something, sometimes we are so selfish, and set in our ways that, we forget the messengers that God sends to us, God himself now becomes irrelevant to us. Is this your reality, I pray that every thorn in your flesh that distracts you and I from Gods purpose for our lives, be destroyed in the mighty name of Jesus.
To you the reader I would also pose the same question, what should the Lord of the vineyard do?, or better yet what would you do if you were the Lord of the vineyard?. Lets see what the Lord of the vineyard did, in vs. 10; the Lord of the vineyard "said he will come and destroy the husbandmen and give the vineyard unto others". Hmm, If it were you the reader wouldn't you do the same thing?. In vs 11; the story goes on to say "that the stone which the builders rejected, is become the head of the cornerstone". The stone talked about here is synonymous with the word Peter, also known as Petrous in the greek translation. Translated into the english language, Petrous really means rock. What does this mean in laymans terms?. Well rocks are solid materials that can be broken down, and used to build houses and foundations. According to Jesus, it is on Petrous that he will build his church, so that the even the gates of hell shall not prevail over it. In the new testament, Jesus is the rock that the builders rejected, but he became the chief corner stone. Jesus is the church and the gospel. So that Jesus, saw himself not only in the son that was killed by the husbandmen, but also in Peter one of his first disciples and also in the owner of vineyard. Why is this information significant? you ask, well listen!!! when you have seen the son, you have seen the father. Have you hear'd that phrase before?, well its scriptural. Eventhough he is not here with us physically, Jesus promised that he is with us even until the end of time. Jesus was killed but he was not destroyed, thats the wonderful thing about him. He died, but he is still alive. This was not the case for the Husbandmen as they where not only destroyed, but thier inheritance was given to someone else to enjoy.
Jesus is great also because, he is in control of all things. We can trust in Gods authority over the earth, and over all that exists outside of the earth. When all things fail God never fails. So let us mover closer to the owner of the vineyard today(He is Petrous),for if the foundation be shaken, what will we do?. Inorder for us to be great husbandmen, we need to be attentive and obedient to the master. When he sends for certain things from the vineyard that he has given unto us we must not be selfish, we must give what belongs to the Lord unto him. He built the vineyard. Let us trust him and let us also be subject unto him, for he is indeed the king over all the earth, and over all things. We must do this believing that when we are obedient, he will give us a part in the inheritance. He never fails, he will surely give us that which we justly deserve in his name, but the one and only condition is we must believe in him. May God give us the grace to not only recognize the master, and his son but also to recognize the messengers of the gospel amen.
